Fall Bible Study!

Beth Moore's 'Breaking Free: The Journey, The Stories'
August 8th through October 17th

Do you want to know God and really believe Him? Do you want to find satisfaction in God, experience His peace, and enjoy His presence? Do you want to make the freedom Christ promised a reality in your daily life?

In Breaking Free, Beth Moore embarks on a study of selected passages from the Book of Isaiah, drawing several parallels between the captive Israelites and today's Christians, in order to show how to make freedom in Christ a daily reality. Moore teaches readers to remove obstacles that hinder freedom by identifying spiritual strongholds in their lives and overcoming them through the truth of God's Word—truth that will set us free.

We look forward to sharing this learning experience with you!

children

Children are precious to us here at Walker Baptist Church. They are both our blessings from God and our holy charges. We recognize that raising good kids today is a serious challenge for parents and families. Too often the lives of innocents are ravaged by the modern environment of our society that seeks to destroy the home and the strength of the family.

Our goal is to help parents raising up Godly children in an un-Godly world by offering them the support of other caring adults to reinforce their parenting. Experience shows us that the more positive adults that a child has in direct interaction with them on a weekly basis the better chance that child has of developing a strong, healthy self esteem and a positive outlook on life that God wants for them. One of the greatest places to find that “broadening base of support” is a Biblical Children’s Ministry. Loving care, gentle discipline, and Biblical teaching are the hallmarks of our children’s ministry from the smallest bed babies up to those energetic fifth graders.

Sunday Mornings

Hectic schedules and limited family time are difficulties we all face with our kids. Walker Baptist offers two different Sunday morning children’s training times to meet your family’s needs:
9:15 am Sunday School for all ages
10:30 am Children’s Church for K-3rd grade

As always (except for rare special occasions) our Nursery for toddlers and those precious littler ones is always open starting at 8:00am and runs continuously for the duration of both our morning and evening services.

Sunday Nights

Sunday nights brings out a different fun direction for kids. The Walker Baptist Children’s Choir Meets at 5:00 pm to bring fun, laughter, and music together in a great learning experience. Children learn Christian music ranging from traditional pieces and hymns to modern, popular Christian music. Several programs a year showcase the beautiful music they have practiced.
Choir Ages:
Little Lambs Ages 3-K
Younger Choir Grades 1-2
Older Choir Grades 3-5

We hope to see your little musician soon!

Wednesday Nights

Wednesdays are all about Bible Drill and Missions. Not the boring stuff. This is fun and exciting.

CHILDREN’S BIBLE DRILL 6:00 pm
Grades K-5

Children learn the Bible through training, study, and fun competition in Bible Drill. We even throw in some crafts, games, and snacks. Big smiles and fast fingers fly freely every week. Too often kids see the Bible as boring or hard to understand, so they don’t read it or use it. Once you’ve been in Bible Drill it’s easy to see how it encourages Biblical knowledge and familiarity with God’s Word. Kids grow spiritually from their first week on.

MISSIONS GROUPS 7:00 pm

Children study and do missions to learn about God’s love for all people at home and around the world. Our leaders combine good old fashion lessons with hands on projects and activities to create an atmosphere of learning that kids don’t want to miss week after week. You never know what will happen. It’s an adventure in missions.

Mission Friends:

Missions fun and games for preschoolers that teaches them about Southern Baptist missionaries and their families in North America and overseas. Learning games, creative projects, and stories help to make every week a fun-filled time. Ages 3-K.

Royal Ambassadors:

A boys club focused on missions work. Weekly lessons and projects designed to help boys become strong young men in Jesus Christ. Boys learn about men of character and conviction serving God around the world. Grades 1-5.

Girls In Action:

The mirror of RAs, GAs is a “girls only” club that helps young ladies to grow in Christ and learn about missions. Crafts and service projects combined with weekly studies help them to see how God is working to touch lives at home and abroad. Grades 1-5.

Note: The Nursery is also staffed on Wednesday nights for younger pre-school and infants so that adults can attend Bible study and choir.

never grow old

Don’t slow down at 55! The Walker Baptist Never Grow Old program for senior adults is alive and kicking! The invitation to join us is open to everyone fifty-five years young and older. Members meet on the third Thursday of each month to fellowship together around 10:30 am. On meeting days we share a big meal together, often enjoying a prepared program of music or a special informative speaker. We sing together, pray together, and share together. Grandchildren and family are always welcome. Some of our past speakers and guests have been the Baton Rouge Dulcimer Club, The Baton Rouge Senior Adult Choir, and the Walker Chief of Police. Please take the opportunity to come join us for a great time of fellowship, food, and joyful service. Grand children are always welcome!

We regularly make special field trips to interesting places. In the past we have visited the Dinner Bell restaurant in McComb, MS (this is an annual event, the food is wonderful!), toured down the Natchez Trace, and visited the Washington Parish Fair. Trips are announced well in advance since we usually have to leave earlier in the day to make our destinations.

men

The Men’s Ministry of Walker Baptist Church is one of our newest and most exciting “emerging” ministries. Started by a small group of men who saw a need for Godly accountability and fraternity between men, the Men’s Ministry has grown and blossomed to give men opportunities to serve and be served in Christ.

Some modern “Christian” cultures have robbed men of their God given masculinity. Men have been encouraged to be less than what they are and thus have become confused, unempowered and disoriented in life. The Men’s Ministry seeks to change that. Jesus was a man’s man, wasn’t He!?! We encourage men to be men; to live out their faith without fear of being censored for being a real man of God. We seek to be help them to be men of honor, purity, and faith in a world that does not seem to want them to be like Christ.

Our men are leaders and faithful supporters in the church. But more importantly they are servants in the same sense that Christ modeled true servant-leadership in John 13. Our purpose is to serve God in humility, serve men in brotherhood, serve our families in love, and to serve our church and community in duty and faithfulness.

We strive to be the front lines in the Army of God.

Opportunities
Monthly Men’s Fellowship and Prayer Breakfast

The second Saturday of every month we meet for a real breakfast and prayer. We pray together for each other, our families, our church, and our community. Everything starts at 7:00 am. The food is free and the friends are good. Come and join us for a time of camaraderie and prayer. (Breakfast is usually pretty good, too) We meet in the Fellowship Hall here at Walker Baptist.

Men’s Bible Study

Interested in a Bible Study from the man’s point of view? Every Sunday morning at 9:15 am join the Men’s Class at Walker Baptist. Class leader and teacher Chris Rushing brings Biblical lessons to life in a way that is truly for men. Members share and discuss how God’s Word impacts their lives to make them stronger and better equipped to handle a rough world. We meet in T-Building Room B2. Dress is casual and the coffee is rich.
